EDP's charter is to empower strategic objectives through a trusted, scalable, & regulatory compliant data foundation while ensuring we treat data risk management as a core competency.

Your Mission

As a Data Warehouse Architect, your responsibilities will be focused on the creation, maintenance, and scalability of all data sources that BlockFi currently has, or will have in the future. You will be an Architect with “skin in the game” of practical delivery who also judiciously balances long-term design with near-term delivery pressure. Using infrastructure as code you will design, build, and deploy self-service patterns so that teams across the organization can easily build their own integrations with ease & confidence, knowing that the best patterns and security are built in from the start. In this role, you will also assist with helping to shape the future of the tech stack within the Enterprise Data Platform.

Responsibilities

• Build reusable components & infrastructure that make it simple for anyone asking data questions to get the answers they need
• Provide architecture & engineering leadership, define architecture solutions, form best practices, work with Engineering and Product partners to deliver strategic data-enabled solutions.
• Lead, define, design, build, test, and maintain the AWS data architecture, including ingestion of data from S3 across various source types – Parquet, csv, text, etc
• Design and implement sustainable architectures and large-scale Data Platforms using AWS Cloud, Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW), Enterprise Data Lake and Lakehouse architecture (Databricks & DeltaLake)
• Design data-driven capabilities to enable expanded utilization of Data Science, Data Analytics, ML & AI technologies
• Oversee the architecture of the transformation & integration layers utilizing various ETL tools and RedShift to create optimal structures to support centralized usage across BUs and analytic functions
• Create & maintain processes to show where and how data should be moved/cleaned/transformed/aggregated once it is landed from source systems into the data lake environment (S3)
• Create & maintain designs & models for combining data across sources for efficient query patterns from BI and analytics
• Partner with other architects, infrastructure, and software experts to define metadata layers, technical strategy & optimal integration within existing engineering landscape
• Lead multiple complex business domains and lead architecture strategy & innovation for these domains
• Drive technology & product innovation through rapid prototyping and iterative development
• Design, build, and operate your platform components so that others can rely on your great ideas (common streaming architectures, data storage methods, proper processing environments)
• Collaborate with Data Engineers, Data Scientists, and Technical Product Managers for platform usage
• Write code that allows consumers of your components to implement infrastructure as code libraries (AWS CDK, Pulumi, etc) so that other teams can use them with ease
• Describe & document examples on how teams can perform different tasks that integrate with your infrastructure
• Construct your flows so that the absolute highest security standards are implemented from the start for your consumers 
• Profile your work to maintain metrics on systems so that your documentation describes the limits and tradeoffs of each set of architectures 
• Simplify and improve as you go

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience with data architecture, data engineering, and cloud data technologies
• 5+ years of experience with AWS cloud services: S3, EC2, RDS, Aurora, Redshift, AWS Lake Formation, CloudFormation, AWS IaC (Infrastructure as Code), DaaS (Data as a Service)
• Extensive applied experience in data engineering, data modeling, RDBMS, cloud databases (PostgreSQL), relational databases, semi-relational database, non-relational database, graph database, production database, mobile app database, star schema, OLTP, structured data, semi-structured data, metadata, data dictionary, data structures, data governance, security, etc
• Expertise in designing for reliability, availability, scalability and performance in highly regulated Financial Services industry preferred
• ETL/ELT (Extract, Transform, Load), combine, organize, cleanse, enrich, & normalize disparate data 
• Demonstrated successful business analysis, design and development of data solutions, or equivalent combination of education and experience in data solution architecture, design, and solution delivery
• Experience with building RESTful API’s is preferred
• Knowledge of multiple back-end languages (e.g., Python, Java) and JavaScript frameworks (e.g., React, Node.js)
• Experience with Big Data open-source technologies such as Hadoop, HBase, Spark, Kafka and ElasticSearch / Solr is preferred.
• Experience with stream-processing systems: Kinesis, EventBridge, Confluent, Kafka or similar. 
• Advanced SQL knowledge; experience with SQL adapters (Ecto) and managing SQL schema changes with code
• Experience building and optimizing data pipelines, architectures, and data sets.
• Experience performing root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Build processes supporting data transformation, data quality management, data structures, metadata capture & cataloging, dependency and workload management.
• A successful history of manipulating, processing and extracting value from large disconnected datasets
• Experience in software release lifecycle with modern distributed version control (e.g. git)
• Experience leading teams in a global complex matrix organization involving multiple reporting lines is preferred
